A tragic incident occurred today in the village of Hamaliivka, Lviv region, where a 49-year-old man drowned after falling through ice while fishing. Despite the quick reaction of local residents and rescuers, the man could not be saved.
According to initial reports, the man, born in 1974, fell into the icy water and managed to call for help. Witnesses immediately dialed emergency number “101”. However, by the time the rescue team arrived, the victim had already gone under the ice.
Search operations led to the discovery of his body about 150 meters from the shore. Rescuers retrieved the man using a boat and special equipment.
Ukraine’s State Emergency Service urges people not to walk on ice unless they are absolutely sure of its strength. Due to fluctuating temperatures and unstable weather conditions, the ice remains highly dangerous and may not support a person’s weight.
