A well-known doctor from Lviv, head of the city hospital in Briukhovychi, Valeriy Pershin, has passed away

It has become known that Valeriy Pershin, the long-time head of the city hospital in Bryukhovychi, passed away today. The Lviv community expresses its sincere condolences to the family, friends and everyone who knew the doctor.

The sad news was announced by the Lviv City Council.

“Everyone who met him at least once knows about the high standard of rehabilitation he set in Lviv.

I remember a long time ago, when this industry was not well developed, everyone wanted to get to Pershin. He did not allow it to be taken away and destroyed, but contributed to its development.

Today, when I heard about this loss, the first thing I thought was that Valeriy was the person who laid the first brick for the development of rehabilitation in Lviv.

May he rest in peace,” said Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi.

The funeral service for Valeriy Pershin will take place on 6 February at the Church of the Entry of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Bryukhovychi (6 Kurortna Street). The parastasis will begin at 19:00.

The funeral service will be held on 7 February in the same church. It will begin at 11:00. Valeriy Pershin will be buried at the cemetery in Bryukhovychi.

 

Biographical note

 

Valeriy Pershin (1941 – 2024).

In 1971, he graduated from the Medical Faculty of the Lviv State Medical Institute. He began his medical career as a general practitioner at the Zhydachiv Central District Hospital in 1971.

From 1976 to 1977 he was a clinical resident in cardiology at Lviv State Medical Institute.

From January to August 1977, he worked at the 7th City Hospital, where he was the head of the rehabilitation department for patients who had suffered a myocardial infarction. From August 1977 to May 1979, he acted as the chief physician of the 7th City Hospital. In May 1979, he became the chief physician of the hospital.

He headed the 7th City Hospital until March 2022. It was then, during the reform, that the hospital became part of the First Medical Association of Lviv. Therefore, from March 2022 to the present day, he has been an advisor to the CEO of the First Medical Association.

For his conscientious work and active participation in public life, he was awarded the “Excellence in Healthcare” badge. He had the highest qualification category in cardiology. In 2001, he was awarded the honorary title of Honoured Doctor of Ukraine.
