Presentation of the honorary title of Doctor of LNU: key from Boris Johnson’s visit to Lviv Oblast

Today, September 9, former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson visited Lviv

At the Main Railway Station, the politician spoke with volunteers of the Medical and Psychological Aid, which has been working on the initiative of the Lviv OVA since the beginning of the full-scale war and meets everyone who is evacuated to the Lviv Oblast due to active hostilities in other regions. Later, he honored the memory of the newest heroes of Ukraine at the Lychakiv cemetery.

Subsequently, Boris Johnson visited the alma mater of many students from the region – Ivan Franko Lviv National University. There was a solemn meeting of the Academic Council and the awarding of the honorary title of doctor (Doctor Honoris Causa) to Boris Johnson of the university.

The event began with a moment of silence in honor of university graduates, students, as well as all those who gave their lives for Ukraine.

From the stage of the Lviv University, Boris Johnson delivered a speech in which he thanked for such an honorary title.

“I am honored to be here today. Being in Kyiv the day before, I visited a rehabilitation center, talked with the military. All, without exception, say that they were simply doing their job – defending Ukraine. And I am amazed at your courage. The Kremlin plans to destroy your country, because there they cannot come to terms with the idea that Ukrainians want to live separately from Russians in a free democratic state and choose their own leader through elections. They will not understand this. Returning to the military. I saw the thirst for struggle in their eyes, so we, the countries of the West, can do even more to support Ukraine, transfer even more equipment that will help you win and save lives. I assure you that when I return to Great Britain, I will again and again do everything in my power to help Ukraine!” Boris Johnson emphasized.

Doctor Honoris Causa is the highest honorary title of the Ivan Franko National University of Lviv, which is awarded to public, state and religious figures, politicians, scientists of Ukraine and the world for a significant contribution to the development of science, education, culture and spirituality.

“Boris Johnson visited the university to receive this honorary title in person, and also talked with university rectors and students studying in Lviv region. We are proud that such a person became part of the academic community of Lviv University. Your name is engraved on the Alley of Courage in Kyiv, it is also in our hearts. Thank you for everything you have done for Ukraine, its defenders and citizens. Thank you for not getting tired of calling on the world to support our state,” Maksym Kozytskyi, the head of Lviv OVA, noted on his social media.

Prerequisites for the visit:
