10 years ago, the photographer was blown up by a mine in Afghanistan. He lost his left arm and two legs, but he did not lose his zest for life. Giles did not get out of bed for a year, survived 37 operations, was able to stand on two prostheses and returned to the profession. Now he travels around the world, continues to take pictures, make films and shows by his example that a physical disability is not a sentence at all.
Giles is also a great fighter for the rights of people with disabilities, the founder and CEO of the NGO “Foundation Legacy of War”, which helps those who survived the conflict.
Today, Giles came to Lviv to support the Ukrainians who are bravely defending their land. He photographs the patients of the First Medical Association of Lviv – adults and children who suffered from the war. Already in October, the UNBROKEN rehabilitation center ambassador will present these photos in Qatar at the WISH 2022 summit – a global platform that gathers the world’s most influential scientists, entrepreneurs and politicians to find ways to solve health care problems.

The National Rehabilitation Center “UNBROKEN” will be the first center in Ukraine where 50,000 Ukrainians will be able to receive physical, psychological and social rehabilitation every year. The patient will not only receive a prosthesis here, but will also successfully return to a full life.
The first financial donors have already joined the project: ATB, Symfony Solutions, Space Art, PZU Ukraine Group and the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine. On the day of the project’s presentation, patrons collected more than 2 million euros. In July, a town for pregnant displaced women “Unbreakable Mothers” was opened as part of the ecosystem. Mothers with children who fled the war to Lviv already live here.
