Lviv said goodbye to Yuriy Shukhevich. A hero of Ukraine, a dissident and former political prisoner, a member of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group, was buried today at the Lychakiv cemetery.
Hundreds of Lviv residents came to say goodbye to him, including the city’s mayor, Andriy Sadovy.
Farewell and the funeral ceremony took place in the Garrison Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul. Therefore, the funeral procession went to the Lychakiv cemetery. Yury Shukhevych was buried at Field of Honor Burials No. 67.
We will remind you that Yuriy Shukhevich passed away on November 22 at the age of 90.
According to the decree of the President of Ukraine from 2006, for “civic courage, long-term public-political and human rights activities in the name of gaining independence of Ukraine”, Yury Shukhevych was awarded the title of Hero of Ukraine. He was a People’s Deputy of Ukraine of the 8th convocation and a member of the Ukrainian Helsinki Group, one of the authors of the law on decommunization.
