Boiler houses of Drohobych educational institutions are once again serviced by the municipal enterprise “Drohobychteploenergo”

The boiler houses that provide heating to certain educational institutions in the Drohobych community have been returned to the servicing of the municipal enterprise “Drohobychteploenergo” of Drohobych City Council. This was reported by Drohobych City Council.

This concerns the boiler houses that heat Lyceum No. 1 named after Ivan Franko, Lyceum No. 2, Gymnasium No. 5 named after Hero of Ukraine Major General Serhiy Kulchytskyi, Gymnasium No. 8 and preschool education institution No. 11 “Svitlyachok”.

The decision was taken to ensure proper preparation of the heat supply facilities for the 2026/2027 heating season, to guarantee the stable operation of the boiler houses, to preserve municipal property and to prevent disruption of the educational process during the winter period.

The municipal enterprise “Drohobychteploenergo” notes that during the previous heating season the operation of these boiler houses was accompanied by technical problems, emergency situations and shortcomings in equipment maintenance. Employees of the municipal enterprise were repeatedly involved in eliminating certain faults, although at that time the facilities were operated by another heat energy supplier.

The situation was particularly difficult at Gymnasium No. 5 and preschool No. 11 “Svitlyachok”, where in January 2026 the educational process was suspended for two weeks due to inadequate temperature conditions in the premises. At Lyceum No. 2, breaches of network tightness were recorded, which led to unstable operation of the boiler house and losses of chemically treated water. Subsequently, the system was topped up with raw water without chemical treatment, which is dangerous for heat engineering equipment, as it leads to the formation of scale, sludge, corrosion and accelerated wear. A similar problem also arose at the boiler house of Gymnasium No. 8.

Following an analysis of the situation, it was established that further operation of the boiler houses without inspection, repair and professional preparation created risks for the stable passage of the next heating season. Therefore, the return of the boiler houses to the servicing of the municipal enterprise “Drohobychteploenergo” was recognised as a necessary economic and technical step to prevent a recurrence of problems, to ensure the proper condition of the equipment and to provide stable heat supply to educational institutions.

During the inter-heating period, specialists of the municipal enterprise will inspect the boiler houses, assess the technical condition of the equipment, identify the consequences of previous operation and carry out the necessary work to prepare the facilities for the new season.

In parallel, the municipal enterprise “Drohobychteploenergo” is working to strengthen the energy resilience of the boiler houses. Under the Memorandum with Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, which acts on behalf of the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ), the enterprise is to receive modern equipment for backup power supply.

This involves six sets of LiFePO4 battery systems, which include a battery system with a capacity of 60 kWh, storage batteries, a control unit, a mounting rack, a cable kit and a Deye hybrid inverter. Such equipment is intended to increase the resilience of the boiler houses to emergency power cuts and prolonged blackouts, since the launch and stable operation of a boiler house require power supply for automation, pumps, control systems, heat carrier circulation and safety.

The measures are being implemented within the framework of the Winter Aid package provided by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development of Germany (BMZ) as part of transitional assistance and implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ Ukraine) GmbH. For the community, this is an important step towards stable heat supply to educational institutions and an uninterrupted educational process during the 2026/2027 heating season.
