Lviv City Council continues to provide financial support to gifted school pupils and graduates who achieve the best results in the National Multi-Subject Test, all-Ukrainian Olympiads, intellectual competitions and contests. The Director of the Education Department of Lviv City Council, Andrii Zakaliuk, spoke about the outcomes of the academic year and the municipal support programmes.
This year, a unique result for the whole of Ukraine was achieved by grammar school graduate from the Hrono Lyceum, Yurii Hashchuk. He took the NMT in four subjects and scored the maximum 800 points. According to the City Council, only two graduates across the entire country have achieved such a result. For this achievement, the Lviv resident will receive 40 thousand hryvnias from the city.
Another three graduates from the Lviv community scored 600 points (the maximum result in three subjects), and each of them will receive a cash bonus of 30 thousand hryvnias. In addition, 27 pupils achieved the maximum in two subjects (400 points) and will receive 20 thousand hryvnias each. A further 218 graduates, who scored the maximum 200 points in a single subject, were also recognised.
“This year we have fantastic results in the National Multi-Subject Test. This is very important for us. Sometimes we may say that such scores are solely thanks to private tutors. But very often those tutors are our teachers as well. And before that, the child has spent at least 10 years studying at school, where a solid foundation is undoubtedly laid. So this is unquestionably a joint achievement for everyone: children, parents, teachers, tutors and the school community as a whole. We are very proud of this,” said Andrii Zakaliuk.
The city encourages pupils not only for success in testing. According to the Education Department, 60 Lviv pupils became winners of all-Ukrainian Olympiads, and nine of them won in two competitions at once. All these pupils have already received 10 thousand hryvnias each from Lviv City Council.
Within the framework of the Programme to Support Gifted Youth, 15 pupils and graduates of Lviv schools received 30 thousand hryvnias each for outstanding intellectual achievements and active involvement in the life of their school communities. These include prize-winners of international and all-Ukrainian stages of Olympiads and contests, participants in quizzes and conferences, volunteers and active representatives of student self-government.
Lviv City Council reminds residents that every year the city awards cash bonuses to pupils and graduates who achieve high results in the National Multi-Subject Test, win Olympiads, intellectual and creative contests, and also demonstrate active civic engagement.
