The first 17 emergency medical technicians from Zakarpattia have completed a specialised training course organised by Lviv Regional Medical Vocational College together with the Zakarpattia Centre of Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine.
The training took place without participants having to leave their posts, as part of the project ‘Skills for Inclusivity: Practical Training and On-the-Job Learning to Activate Ukraine’s Workforce’. The college’s lecturers delivered the theoretical component, while participants honed their practical skills directly within the disaster medicine system.
All 17 specialists successfully passed the state qualification examination and received certificates confirming completion of the course. The college emphasises that this model of cooperation makes it possible to strengthen the staffing capacity of the emergency medical care system rapidly.
“Our task is to provide up-to-date knowledge and develop practical skills that immediately contribute to saving lives. Cooperation with the Zakarpattia EMC Centre is an important step in expanding our educational reach,” said the college’s director, Lesia Vovk.
In May this year, the college signed a memorandum of cooperation with the Zakarpattia Regional Centre of Emergency Medical Care and Disaster Medicine on the joint training of emergency medical technicians. Over the past three years, the institution has retrained around 400 ambulance drivers.
The project is implemented by the non-governmental organisation ‘Ukrainian Professional Development’ with financial support from the European Union, Germany, Poland, Estonia and Denmark under the multi-donor initiative Skills4Recovery, implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and Solidarity Fund PL (SFPL).
