Mostyska community wins competition to establish a careers guidance hub

Mostyska City Territorial Community in Lviv region has been included in the list of winners of the nationwide grant competition to establish careers guidance hubs. Fifty-two communities from 21 regions of Ukraine will receive support from the DECIDE project and, already this year, will begin setting up modern spaces in educational institutions to help children and teenagers with professional self-determination.

The competition organisers note that they received 112 applications from communities and had initially planned to support 50 of them. However, after a detailed analysis of the ideas submitted and the results of work during the first year of national piloting, a decision was taken to increase the number of winners to 52.

Throughout the pilot year, the communities that joined the initiative worked on systematic careers guidance for school pupils. They built cooperation with local businesses and employers, organised careers excursions to enterprises, held classes on the elective course “Professions” for pupils in Years 8–9, and familiarised children and teenagers with employment opportunities in their own communities.

While preparing their applications, communities, together with representatives of business and employers, developed concepts for future careers guidance hubs. As a result, the organisers received ideas that differed in format and content, but all of them are based on partnerships between education, local authorities and business and are aimed at strengthening the careers guidance system.

The careers guidance hub is seen as a space where children and young people will be able to explore the world of professions, gain a better understanding of their own abilities, communicate with employers, acquire practical skills and see various development options, so that they can make more informed choices about their educational and professional paths.

In addition to the Mostyska City Territorial Community, the list of winners from Lviv region also includes the Rudky and Novyi Rozdil City Territorial Communities. Overall, the list comprises communities from Vinnytsia, Volyn, Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Zakarpattia, Zhytomyr, Zaporizhzhia, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Kirovohrad, Mykolaiv, Odesa, Poltava, Rivne, Sumy, Ternopil, Kharkiv, Khmelnytskyi, Cherkasy, Chernivtsi and Chernihiv regions.

The DECIDE project is implemented by the public organisation DOCCU and Zurich University of Teacher Education with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Ukraine.
