Educational institutions in the Drohobych community are preparing for the new academic year, and lyceums are continuing to accept applications for Year 10. According to preliminary estimates, the community will be able to open at least 17 Year 10 classes.
Head of the Education Department of the Education Directorate of Drohobych City Council Halyna Marchuk reported that from Monday a commission has been working in the community to inspect the readiness of educational institutions for the start of the teaching process. Until 21 August it will check schools and lyceums daily to ensure they are ready for the new academic year.
This year the issue of establishing the network of Year 10 classes is particularly relevant for the Drohobych community. The network of lyceums has expanded, so in addition to the Drohobych Academic Lyceum named after Bohdan Lepky, Lyceum No. 2 and Stebnyk Lyceum No. 7, three more Drohobych lyceums will accept applications for the upper secondary school. Despite earlier concerns about a possible shortage of pupils, all institutions have already received a sufficient number of applications to form two lyceum classes each in the selected specialisations.
As of now, the following numbers of applications have been submitted:
- to Lyceum No. 2 – 56 applications (2 classes planned);
- to Lyceum No. 1 named after Ivan Franko – 46 applications (2 classes);
- to Lyceum No. 16 named after Yurii Drohobych – 46 applications (2 classes);
- to Lyceum No. 4 named after Lesia Ukrainka – 42 applications (2 classes);
- to Stebnyk Lyceum No. 7 – 47 applications (2 classes).
They are also separately considering the possibility of opening a single Year 11 class.
The Drohobych Academic Lyceum named after Bohdan Lepky has received 187 applications and will be able to form 7 lyceum classes. This institution plans to offer all the available specialisations so that pupils have opportunities to develop in various educational fields.
Applications for Year 10 are still being accepted, so by the start of the academic year the number of lyceum students may increase, including at the expense of children from among internally displaced persons. At the same time, the community has already provisionally shaped its network – a minimum of 17 Year 10 classes.
