In Lviv, on Trakt Hlynianskyi, construction work on the new building of the “Provesin” Gymnasium is entering its final stage. At present, more than 400 pupils of this institution are forced to study in two shifts, but after the reconstruction is completed the school will be able to accommodate more children in more comfortable conditions. Lviv Mayor Andriy Sadovyi spoke about the progress of the works.
The newly constructed building will have an area of about 2700 sq m. It will include spacious classrooms, an assembly hall and a sports hall, a new catering unit, as well as a large shelter. Once the building is commissioned, more than half a thousand pupils will be able to study here.
According to the Mayor, the initial construction design was drawn up even before the full-scale invasion, so it did not fully take into account the requirements for accessibility and safety. Later, a new design team was brought in, which refined the solutions with regard to accessibility, the arrangement of the shelter and the connection between the nursery and the gymnasium buildings, where children are currently studying in two shifts.
“Accessibility, a shelter, a wonderful canteen and more space,” explained Andriy Sadovyi.
The main volume of construction work is planned to be completed by April next year. The contractors assume that already in the first half of next year part of the educational process may be moved to the new building.
In parallel, the improvement of the entire area around the gymnasium and the nursery is envisaged. A sports area is to be created here, which will be available not only to pupils, but also to parents and veterans.
Inside the new building, the main internal works have already been carried out: the ventilation system has been installed, sanitary facilities have been fitted out, and the walls have been prepared for painting.
Construction of the “Provesin” Gymnasium building began back in 2019, but in 2022 it was suspended due to a lack of funding. The works were resumed two years later, financed from the Lviv city budget.
