Memorandum signed in Lviv to support careers guidance for teenagers

In Lviv, the Department of Economic Development of the Lviv City Council and the Charity Fund KIDS OF UKRAINE have signed a memorandum on cooperation aimed at supporting careers guidance for teenagers. The partnership envisages organising activities that will help young people gain a better understanding of different professions and decide on their future career.

The cooperation will be implemented within the framework of the fund’s programmes “SviTY” and “SviTY PRO”. They plan to hold educational events, visits to local businesses, meetings with representatives of business, including veteran-led enterprises, as well as training sessions to develop teenagers’ communication, practical and entrepreneurial skills.

According to the Chief Operating Officer of the KIDS OF UKRAINE Charity Fund, Olha Pechena, the organisation works with children aged 11 to 17, including children of service personnel, internally displaced children and teenagers facing a range of life circumstances. The fund’s main areas of activity are psychosocial support, socialisation, non-formal education and careers guidance.

We help children to socialise, recover psychologically and, in time, to develop and look for their future profession. Thanks to this cooperation, children will be able to explore different professions, including how businesses operate in Lviv. This will help them make their future choice, said Olha Pechena.

The KIDS OF UKRAINE fund has centres in Lviv, Khmelnytskyi, Zhytomyr and Cherkasy. At these locations, teenagers can socialise with their peers, take part in joint activities, gain new knowledge and develop social skills.

The Director of the Department of Economic Development of the Lviv City Council, Inna Svystun, stressed that it is important to give teenagers the opportunity not only to learn about professions in theory, but also to see specialists at work directly in the workplace. According to her, many companies in Lviv are in need of qualified staff, and the new partnership will help young people discover these opportunities while also allowing businesses to introduce the next generation to their activities.

As part of the cooperation, teenagers have already visited the Lviv City Council, where a guided quest-style tour was organised for them. During the visit, they learned about the work of councillors, the mayor and local self-government bodies, as well as about the specifics of a career in public service. Such activities are intended to broaden young people’s horizons, familiarise them with different career paths and help them better understand their own interests.

The memorandum was signed on behalf of the Department of Economic Development of the Lviv City Council by its Director, Inna Svystun, and on behalf of the KIDS OF UKRAINE Charity Fund by Chief Operating Officer, Olha Pechena.
