Lviv to present the programme “Psychological Trauma. Healing through Art”

On 11 September, the Lviv National Academy of Arts, together with UNBROKEN University, will present a two-year Minor educational programme “Psychological Trauma. Healing through Art” for Academy students. The presentation will begin at 10:00 in the shelter of LNAA at 35 Kubiivych Street in Lviv, where the signing of a memorandum of cooperation between the two institutions is also planned.

The new programme combines art education, psychology and rehabilitation practices. Its aim is to equip students with basic skills in using art as a tool to support a person’s psychological and social recovery.

The course will include theoretical classes and the analysis of practical case studies. Students will be able to study and apply artistic methods in the rehabilitation process, working in close interaction with the professional community.

Cooperation with UNBROKEN University makes it possible to build the programme on the basis of real experience of working with veterans and other groups in need of psychological and social support. This is a continuation of LNAA’s systematic work in the field of art therapy, which the Academy has been developing since 2022 together with the UNBROKEN Centre.

Within the current partnership, veterans are already working in eight of the Academy’s studios and attending specialised courses designed for them and their family members. The launch of the Minor “Psychological Trauma. Healing through Art” is intended to strengthen this area and consolidate the interdisciplinary approach.

Taking part in the presentation of the programme will be LNAA Rector Vasyl Kosiv, UNBROKEN University Rector Oleksandr Filts, Head of Mental Health at the UNBROKEN Centre Oleh Bereziuk, and coordinator of LNAA’s social project “Academy for Veterans” Tetyana Bernatska.

The organisers stress that “Psychological Trauma. Healing through Art” is a step towards a new model of interdisciplinary education, in which art becomes an important part of the broader process of human recovery.
