In Lviv, Pupils Attend Restored Swimming Pool at School No. 72

Pupils at Lviv School No. 72 can once again use the swimming pool, which has been restored after almost thirty years of inactivity. Swimming lessons are held here for students in years 3-6. This is extremely important for their physical fitness and health, and it also saves parents money on additional classes, according to the Lviv City Council.

The pool, built back in 1981, had been closed since 1998. The total budget for the renovation reached 22 million UAH, which allowed for the installation of new changing rooms, showers and a medical room, ensuring maximum comfort for the children. As noted by the Director of the Education Department, Andriy Zakalyuk, this is the 21st pool among the city’s educational institutions.

Swimming lessons are attended by 356 students, and each session is supervised by a coach and a nurse. “Swimming not only improves children’s health but also develops self-preservation skills,” emphasised the school headmistress Olena Frantsishkevych-Fedir.

The students eagerly share their experiences of the new pool. Sixth-former Nikolas noted that the water is always warm and the changing rooms have handy facilities for drying hair. Anya, his classmate, emphasised that swimming has become her favourite lesson. She is learning new techniques, and the school provides the opportunity to practise skills in convenient conditions.
