On 20 August, the second round of admissions to preschool education institutions will begin in Lviv. According to the city, there are currently more than 1,500 available places in nurseries, so parents whose children did not get in during the first round have an additional opportunity to choose another institution.
The first round of nursery admissions in the Lviv community took place on 1 June. At that time, more than 6,500 children were admitted to preschool institutions. If a child did not get into the priority nursery or parents decide to change their choice, the application can be edited in the personal account on the city’s online waiting list portal until 18:00 on 19 August, by selecting a nursery with available places.
Separately, Lviv has groups for the very youngest — children aged from 1 to 2 years. There are currently 32 available places in such groups. From September, early-years groups will operate in 25 nurseries in the city: ZDO No.92, No.48, No.55, No.153, No.51, No.170, No.127, No.5, No.154, No.129, No.32, No.75, No.21, No.166, No.109, No.155, No.43, No.144, No.89, No.41, No.57, as well as in the institutions ‘Dzvinochok’, ‘Vilni’, ‘Levomrii’ and ‘Veselka’.
Detailed information about admissions and available places in groups for children from the age of one can be obtained from the preschool education section of the Education Development Department of Lviv City Council by calling 254−60−54 (from 8:00 to 17:00, lunch break from 12:00 to 13:00).
This is already the second year that the city has been implementing the ‘Playground of Change’ programme, under which early care groups have been opened in certain nurseries for children who have turned 12 months old as of 1 September. Admissions to these groups took place on 1 August, so applications can no longer be edited on the website. At the same time, there are still a few isolated available places specifically for children from 12 months in several nurseries.
“The second round of nursery admissions starts on 20 August. Parents whose children did not get into preschool institutions can adjust their application until 18:00 on 19 August and choose another nursery. Information about available places is in the ‘Instructions’ tab on the online waiting list portal. On the morning of 20 August, parents of admitted children will receive an SMS and can bring in the documents for enrolment. The consent form needs to be completed directly at the nursery,” said Nataliia Klochko, head of the preschool education section of the City Education Development Department.
The year 2026 has been declared the Year of Early Years Education in Lviv. During this period, nursery premises and infrastructure are being upgraded: kitchens and assembly halls are being repaired, grounds and paths in play areas are being improved, new groups are being created for children from the age of one with the purchase of beds and specialist furniture, and shelters are also being repaired and equipped.
Several institutions have installed lifting platforms for children with special educational needs and visitors with limited mobility, including parents with pushchairs. Nurseries are also being equipped with televisions for English lessons, and necessary works are being carried out in institutions that were recently merged.
Lviv continues to develop bilingual preschool education. This year, the project is being implemented for the second time: children in 60 nurseries are learning English in groups from the age of three. Many institutions already have English teachers, and around 50 more nurseries are expected to join the initiative.
As part of the Year of Early Years Education, special attention is being paid to creating modern conditions for children’s learning and development, updating the material resources of nurseries, and supporting the teachers working in the city’s preschool education system.
