The World Food Program of the United Nations will provide financial support to educational institutions of the Lviv region in the organization of hot meals for children

In total, the program covered 11 regions of Ukraine. In the Lviv region, the program will be extended to almost 3,000 schoolchildren.

Lviv Oblast became one of the pilot regions that signed a Memorandum with the World Food Program (hereinafter – WFP) of the United Nations regarding the provision of financial assistance to schools in the organization of hot meals. It is about the fact that WFP transfers financial resources to regional administrations, which are then directed to communities that have been selected within the program and are responsible for preparing and providing hot school meals.

Together with our region, the leaders of 10 other regions signed the Memorandum. In this way, the program will provide more than 60,000 Ukrainian children with daily hot meals, including almost 3,000 from the Lviv region.

“Various, high-quality and balanced nutrition in schools is the key to good health of children. Thank you to the UN World Food Program for the financial support, cooperation and for the sincere desire to give our children the best despite all the difficult circumstances we live in. Special thanks to the First Lady of Ukraine for raising such an important issue – the healthy nutrition of our children. This Memorandum will allow us to balance our communities on the issue of fiscal capacity to ensure equal access for children to hot school meals. We want the number of schools chosen for this program to grow,” said the head of Lviv OVA Maksym Kozytskyi.

In the Lviv region, 12 territorial communities were elected, namely: Borynska, Brodivska, Zhuravenska, Krasnenska, Lopatynska, Mostyska, Novorozdilska, Pidkaminska, Rava-Ruska, Radekhivska, Skolivska, and Sudovovyshnyanska. The program covers 18 general secondary education institutions in these communities.

As Oleg Paska, director of the Department of Education and Science of the Lviv OVA, said, the communities were chosen according to several principles, in particular, according to the number of students in primary classes and the number of IDP children.

By the way, the average cost of lunch in educational institutions in the Lviv region ranges from 26 to 45 hryvnias.
