Every year, on the eve of the Christmas and New Year holidays, on the initiative of the mayor of Drohobych, Taras Kuchma, the community implements a charitable campaign – “Hotline of St. Nicholas”.

The action has been ongoing since 2018 and is designed to support and give the joy of a miracle to those who need it the most.

This is how the winter cycle of holidays began with one of the most beloved for children – the holiday of Nicholas the Wonderworker. During the month of December, on the initiative of the authorities of Drohobych, large families of the community, families in need of support and in difficult life circumstances, people from among IDPs, people with disabilities, single and lonely residents of the community received symbolic packages of support and gifts on the occasion of the holidays .

This year, the gifts were more modest than in previous years, because the war is ongoing, so the aid packages were formed from products and basic necessities. Thus, by joint efforts, thanks to the city’s entrepreneurs, charitable foundations, structural divisions of the city council, as well as the “Ukrainian Team” volunteer headquarters, the charity event in 2023 was implemented on a fairly large scale.

The basis of this year’s packages were food sets (pasta, cereals), and depending on the composition of the family and its financial condition, sweets for children, toys, clothes, hygiene products, stationery and other household items.

In particular, more than 600 families of the Drohobych community managed to receive New Year’s gifts. In addition, it was possible to purchase and form 400 packages of sweets for the wards of the center, which social workers handed over to elderly citizens after visiting them on the eve of the holidays.

Sweet packages and toys were also given to the students of the Naguevytskyi special boarding school, where children with reduced vision are educated, as well as the students of the “Oranta” orphanage and the “Nadia” Drohobytsky Voluntary Society for the Protection of Disabled Children.
