Malekhiv celebrates 647 years since the first historical mention and 605 years since the Magdeburg Law was granted

This weekend, on 6 October, the community of Malekhiv will celebrate two important dates in the history of their village.

On this occasion, a large charity event will be held to raise money to support the defenders of the village: Serhiy Kerod from the 151st Brigade of the 1st Aerial Reconnaissance Battalion, Orest Zabor from the 68th Separate Ranger Brigade, and Roman Kostiv from the 80th Air Assault Brigade.

Employees of the community office, who are among the organisers, invite everyone to join the volunteer event and support the soldiers. There will be a joint prayer, a concert and a charity auction. The lots include military paraphernalia, commemorative coins, and embroidered paintings. There is also the icon “The Last Supper”, which was made especially for the auction by resident Andrii Poshchalovskyi.

An interesting fact about Malekhiv:

  • The Greek Catholic church houses a miraculous icon of the Holy Family “Escape to Egypt” from the early 13th century, which is recognised as authentic. At one time it was crowned and decorated with precious corals. This church was built together with the parishioners by Yevhen Konovalets’ father’s brother.
  • Malekhiv also has a neo-Gothic chapel where the Konovalets family is buried.
  • The community has preserved the Church of the Holy Archangel Michael, which was built in the 18th century.
  • There is a real hiding place in the forests of Malekhiv. It was used by the rebels until 1946, when it was destroyed by NKVD troops. None of the underground fighters who fought for an independent Ukraine surrendered then. It was restored in the days of the former village council.
