Lviv to Celebrate Independence Day with a Joint Breakfast

On August 24, Lviv will host the event ‘Garden of Unity,’ which inaugurates a new tradition of celebrating Ukraine’s Independence Day with a joint breakfast.

Hanna Piєkh notes that those who daily bring victory closer will gather at one long table: veterans and their families, volunteers, artists, scientists, and philanthropists. The organizers — Unbroken Foundation and cultural historian and researcher Nadiya Shapoval — aim to make this breakfast a symbol of unity and gratitude to Ukraine’s defenders.

The event’s menu will also have special significance: ingredients, ceramics, and herbs collected from all regions of the country — from Donetsk and Crimea to Transcarpathia and Polissia. The atmosphere will be complemented by music from electronic composer Nastya Vogan, created based on the songs of Ukrainian birds.

The ‘Garden of Unity’ is meant to remind us that independence today is being fought for by our defenders, and everyone can contribute to expressing gratitude to them. The organizers encourage Ukrainians in various cities and communities to set up their own ‘Unity Breakfast’ — in a yard, on a street, or in an establishment, bringing neighbors and friends together at one table.
