Active blood donors were honored during a festive bonfire in Lviv.
On June 14th, World Blood Donor Day, the Lviv Regional Blood Service Center and the charitable foundation ‘With an Angel on the Shoulder’ united those who save lives by sharing their blood. A donor bonfire was held in the city, during which active donors were recognized and gratitude was expressed to all who selflessly donate blood.
The bonfire became a symbol of warmth, gratitude, and the strength of the donor community. During wartime, blood donation has gained special significance — daily, blood components save the lives of both military and civilians affected by the hostilities.
Acting manager of Lviv Regional Council and active donor Yaroslav Hasiak presented honorary awards from the Lviv Regional Council to the most active donors of the region. “This event is special for me. Last year, I was given this bracelet in honor of donation, and this year I have already donated 15 times. The most striking moment was when, after donating platelets, I was told: ‘You saved the life of a little girl named Svitlanka.’ Those words became my motivation. Donating is not an abstract help; it’s a real saved life”, shared Yaroslav Hasiak.
He also thanked the charitable foundation ‘With an Angel on the Shoulder’, the Lviv Regional Blood Service Center, medical professionals, volunteers, and all donors for their tireless daily work.
In the past year, the Lviv Regional Blood Service Center conducted dozens of donor campaigns in the region, including mobile collections using two mobile centers. One of the most notable was a campaign in May, during which tickets to theaters and museums in Lviv and the region were given for each donation. In total, over 2500 museum tickets and hundreds of theater tickets were distributed.
The center also has the ability to transport blood to various regions of Ukraine, which is especially important during the war when the need for donor blood increases daily.
