The campaign “Mykolaychyk on the border” was held at checkpoints in the Lviv region

Border guards of the 7th Carpathian Border Guard Detachment welcomed all children crossing the border today. Throughout the day, with the support of the NGO “I Can” and the International Staff for Assistance to Ukrainians, children crossing the border received sweets at all checkpoints in the Lviv region.

As part of the campaign, the residence of St Nicholas was opened at the Shehyni checkpoint. There was a photo zone, a Christmas tree and gifts from St Nicholas.

The role of St Nicholas was played by border guard Serhiy Karpyuk, who fought hard for Mariupol, was wounded and taken prisoner, where he lost 52 kilograms of weight, but did not lose faith that he would return to his native land. The man spent 10 months in enemy captivity. He was exchanged on the night of 31 December to 1 January 2023.

The Mikolajczyk on the Border campaign was organised to support young citizens, as the full-scale war is already causing a lot of pain every day. We also wanted to welcome little Ukrainians back to Ukraine who are returning home and have to celebrate this holiday on the road. Ukraine begins with its borders, and the holiday for children began right at the checkpoint.

Also today, border guards visited children of fallen comrades, children whose fathers are in captivity, and children in educational institutions, rehabilitation centres and orphanages.
