A significant moment occurred in Stryi on 14th March, marking 34 years since 1990 when, for the first time in Soviet times, the national flag of Ukraine was raised next to the red-and-blue flag above the city council building. This event was the first official installation of the flag by decision of the local authorities. This was reported on Facebook.
Twenty-four years later, on 14th March 2014, the first 500 volunteers of the Maidan Self-Defence departed for a training base in Novi Petrivtsi, to then head east to defend Ukrainian territory. Another significant event transpired in 2017 when this day was officially recognised as the Day of Ukrainian Volunteers.
Both events are commemorated as symbols of courage and readiness to fight for the protection of Ukraine. May our flag remain a symbol of freedom and independence!
