On the occasion of the 159th anniversary of his death, the memory of Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky was honored in Lviv

On this occasion, a worship service, an exhibition of works by famous Lviv artists, and a concert of praise were held.

Yesterday, on July 29, on the occasion of the 159th anniversary of the birth of the Righteous Metropolitan Andrey Sheptytsky, a solemn spiritual and artistic event was held at St. George’s Cathedral. The service was accompanied by the singing of the Theophoros octet of the Lviv Theological Seminary of the Holy Spirit.

The service was followed by the grand opening of an exhibition of works by famous Lviv artists as part of the Flowers for Metropolitans project and a concert with musicians from the Lviv National Philharmonic named after Myroslav Skoryk, Lilia Nikitchuk, Yaroslav Myhal, Maksym Rymar, and Olena Markevych.

Finally, Metropolitan Andrey held a joint prayer for the Ukrainian people on St. George’s Square. Flowers and candles were laid at the monument to Metropolitan Andrey. They also jointly performed the spiritual anthem of Ukraine, “God, the Great, the Only, Save Ukraine.”

Ivan Sobko, Deputy Head of the Lviv Regional Military Administration, joined the commemoration of the head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church.

“We all need such giants of the spirit who will inspire us to stand firm in the face of evil. The righteous Metropolitan Andrey was right when he said that “the world is dying for lack of love, dying for human hatred!” His example of sacrifice and love is shaping new generations of Ukrainians who will know the value of freedom, love and prayer. We raise our prayers to God and the righteous Metropolitan for his intercession before God for our long-suffering and heroic people,” said Ivan Sobko.
