The Pilgrimage Route, which passes through Lviv Region, is now officially part of the European network of the Way of St James. This was announced during a presentation in the city of Pistoia in Italy, where representatives of the European federation unanimously recognised Camino Ruteno on an international level.
This event is of significant importance for Lviv Region, as historically our area has been associated with this route. In Zvenyhorod, archaeologists found pilgrim shells from the 12th to 13th centuries, indicating the ancient character of this path.
This step opens new opportunities for international cooperation, tourism development, support of the economy and promotion of local communities. Most importantly, it re-establishes Ukraine as an integral part of the European pilgrimage landscape.
