Six new information panels about Ivan Franko installed in Drohobych

In Drohobych, to mark the 170th anniversary of the birth of Ivan Franko, six new information panels have been installed to indicate places connected with the writer’s life and work.

Ivan Franko had close ties with Drohobych: he studied and lived here, developed as a personality, began his literary work and became involved in public life. The new panels have been placed at the city’s historic locations and contain short notes enabling residents and tourists to discover familiar streets and buildings for themselves in the context of the writer’s biography.

The initiative was implemented by the Department of Culture and Tourism Development of the Drohobych City Council together with the municipal enterprise “SMU”. In addition to installing the new objects, previously mounted commemorative plaques at locations which scholars and local historians have identified as associated with Ivan Franko’s stays in Drohobych have also been restored this year.

The restoration work was carried out by Drohobych Children’s Art School teacher Ivan Mozhak and sole trader Serhii Novozhylov. As a result, the number of information points in the city has increased, expanding opportunities to explore Drohobych through the stories of the people who created its cultural heritage and contributing to the development of cultural tourism.
