A new educational clearing has been created in the Znesinnia Regional Landscape Park in Lviv, where visitors can learn more about trees and how to determine their age by their annual rings.
The location is situated within the children’s playground at the foot of Mount Stefana, next to the start of the steps. In a spacious green area, seven samples of trunks from different tree species with diagonal cuts have been installed. The annual rings are clearly visible on these cuts, and by counting them you can determine the age of the tree.
One of the trunks has an information board attached, with instructions and a detailed description of how to correctly count the annual rings and determine the age of the plant. Young trees grow around the installation, complementing the educational space.
“You will be able to see real cross-sections of different tree species. You can familiarise yourself with a clear diagram showing how to correctly calculate a tree’s age by its annual rings. It’s a wonderful way to spend time in nature usefully, learn something new and master the skill of ‘reading’ the history of trees on your own,” the Znesinnia Regional Landscape Park notes.
Everyone is invited to visit the new clearing — with family, with friends or on their own.
As a reminder, at the beginning of June an inclusive space for sport and rehabilitation was opened in Znesinnia Park. Two car parks and wide pedestrian alleys were created next to the sports ground.
The park administration urges visitors to treat nature with care and not to leave rubbish behind. After one of the recent weekends, staff had to remove an entire trailer of waste from just one location.
For reference: Znesinnia is a regional landscape park in Lychakivskyi district of Lviv, not far from the city centre. It is a protected area within Ukraine’s nature reserve fund, covering 312.1 hectares. A buffer zone of 473.61 hectares has been designated to form a unified natural and architectural ensemble, so the total area of the park together with the protected territory is 785.71 hectares. The main part of the park is located in the Kaiserwald area.
