The Ukrainian Institute of National Remembrance recommends renaming Chervonograd. The institution published the corresponding decision on its website today.

In Lviv Oblast, they recommend renaming Chervonograd and Chervone in Zolochiv district. As for Chervonograd, experts of the institute note that “the historical name of the city is Krystynopil. It became a part of the USSR on February 15, 1951 on the basis of the Soviet-Polish intergovernmental agreement, as a result of which Poland received Oyster Dolishny. In the same year, 1951, the city was renamed Chervonograd. During the times of the USSR, it developed as a mining town with explored coal deposits.”
The recommendation to rename the city from the Institute of National Remembrance means that, according to the decolonization law that came into effect on July 27, 2023, the city authorities have six months to hold public hearings and choose one of the names proposed by residents. The name “Chervonograd” is no longer up for discussion. If this is not done by the end of January, the head of the community can rename the city by an appropriate order, and from April 2024 – the head of the regional military administration.
