Drohobych receives new sewer jetting vehicle from Krakow for its 935th anniversary

To mark the 935th anniversary of Drohobych, the city has received another gift from its long-standing partners in the Republic of Poland. A delegation from JSC “Krakow City Waterworks” handed over a modern sewer jetting vehicle based on an IVECO chassis to the municipal enterprise “Drohobychvodokanal”. This was reported by Drohobych City Council.

The official handover of the equipment took place on 9 September on Rynok Square in Drohobych. The Krakow delegation was led by the Chairman of the Board of JSC “Krakow City Waterworks” and Honorary Citizen of Drohobych, Piotr Ziętara. He was accompanied by Deputy Chairman of the Board Paweł Senderek, Board Member Katarzyna Jakimska and Technical Director Tadeusz Żaba.

On the Ukrainian side, the guests were welcomed by Drohobych Mayor Taras Kuchma, Head of the Municipal Enterprise “Drohobychvodokanal” Roman Shahala, his deputy Oleh Deneka and the enterprise’s Chief Engineer Vasyl Holovko. On Rynok Square, a symbolic handover of the keys to the new vehicle took place, adding to the municipal fleet.

The new sewer jetting vehicle is designed to clean small-diameter sewer networks in squares, courtyards and parks where large machinery cannot operate. This specialised equipment helps maintain underground networks in proper condition, reduces the risk of unpleasant odours in hot weather and contributes to the city’s environmental safety.

The Mayor stressed that support from partners in Krakow has not only technical but also social significance for the community.

On behalf of the entire community, I sincerely thank Mr Piotr Ziętara and the entire Krakow delegation. Your solidarity and support help Drohobych to develop, to stay clean and to look to tomorrow with confidence,” said community leader Taras Kuchma.

The vehicle handed over is already the seventh piece of equipment that JSC “Krakow City Waterworks” has provided to the Municipal Enterprise “Drohobychvodokanal” since the start of cooperation in 2017. This complex of seven specialised vehicles now underpins the day-to-day work of the city’s public utilities.

The core of the fleet consists of three sewer jetting vehicles of varying capacity. In addition to the new manoeuvrable IVECO-based vehicle, Drohobych also operates a powerful Mercedes-Benz Actros hydrodynamic unit designed for flushing large trunk sewers under high pressure and preventing flooding during heavy downpours.

Another important element of the complex is a telescopic laboratory based on a Mercedes-Benz Sprinter. Thanks to its specialised equipment, experts can inspect the condition of pipes from the inside, detect damage with high precision and carry out local repairs without large-scale excavation of city streets.

The Municipal Enterprise “Drohobychvodokanal” also has three specialised vehicles for transporting drinking water. In the event of emergencies or planned repairs, they make it possible to deliver water promptly to different neighbourhoods of the city, ensuring autonomous water supply for residents.

All the equipment received from partners is fitted with generators and pumps, enabling municipal services to respond quickly to emergencies and eliminate them within tight timeframes.

The City Council also recalled that, thanks to cooperation with Krakow, Drohobych’s SES rescuers have likewise received assistance: the city’s State Emergency Service unit was given a powerful fire engine by the Krakow Volunteer Fire Brigade. This support has saved the Drohobych budget millions of hryvnias and strengthened the community’s safety.

Drohobych City Council, Mayor Taras Kuchma, the management of the Municipal Enterprise “Drohobychvodokanal” and the community expressed their gratitude to the residents of Krakow, to Piotr Ziętara and to the Board of JSC “Krakow City Waterworks” for their consistent support and partnership.
