The Drohobych Territorial Community has become a new member of the international ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability association, uniting local governments worldwide committed to sustainable development.
This membership provides opportunities for the community to enhance environmental activities, reduce emissions, ensure equality, and implement sustainable development principles.
What is ICLEI?
ICLEI is a global network of over 2,500 local and regional governments from more than 125 countries. The organization supports cities in sustainable development, climate initiatives such as the European Green Deal, and building resilient, thriving communities.
For Drohobych Community, ICLEI membership means:
- Collaboration with other ICLEI members.
- Finding new partnerships and implementing projects with external funding.
- Adopting advanced European and global practices in nature-based solutions.
ICLEI was established in 1990 with the support of the United Nations. At its founding conference in New York, over 200 representatives from local governments across 43 countries came together to launch a global sustainability initiative.
As of 2021, ICLEI operates more than 20 offices worldwide, supporting cities and communities in their environmental and social projects.
