King of Sweden Impressed by the Beauty of Lviv During Visit

On 17th April 2026, the King of Sweden, Carl XVI Gustaf, arrived in Lviv along with the President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelensky. They began their visit by paying respects to the fallen soldiers at Lychakiv Cemetery, after which the King strolled around the city with the Mayor of Lviv, Andriy Sadovyi.

During his walk through Rynok Square, the King expressed his admiration, confessing that he had googled Lviv before the trip and was impressed by its architectural beauty. He was shown fountains protected from Russian shelling, Lviv’s Town Hall, and other architectural landmarks.

The Mayor of Lviv explained that since the beginning of the full-scale war, the city has taken measures to protect its architectural heritage. He also mentioned the recent missile strike on the city three weeks ago, and a visit to Soborna Square is planned.

The King noted that it is important to be aware of the difficult situation Ukraine is in and emphasised that Sweden is highly engaged with events in Ukraine.

They are all young people, and they have been at war, fighting for their country — said the King of Sweden, expressing his support for Ukraine.
