Lviv Leads the Ranking of Barrier-Free Communities in Ukraine

Lviv has secured the first place in the Barrier-Free Index ranking among large communities in Ukraine for the year 2025. The indicators were assessed by the Ministry of Communities and Territories Development of Ukraine, which encourages the creation of a barrier-free environment in cities.

Iryna Marunyak, the Deputy Mayor for Accessibility, explains: “The results demonstrate the quality work of Lviv in the direction of creating a barrier-free space.” Residents increasingly feel comfort thanks to the innovations that have become a norm of life.

The Index measures accessibility across several aspects, including physical accessibility of transport and the participation of people with reduced mobility in community life. The ranking assessed 24 city communities and 2 districts of Kyiv, with Lviv emerging as the best.

Among other measures, 2026 plans include the installation of 19 ramps and 71 lifts in residential buildings in the city. Compensation is provided for veterans with disabilities to accommodate accessibility at home. Inclusive projects are also underway on a 15 km route that connects the Shevchenkivskyi and Lychakivskyi districts.
