Lviv continues to renew its fleet of municipal equipment for the city’s winter maintenance. With the support of the Danish EIFO fund, the city plans to purchase 30 snow-clearing vehicles that will operate on streets and pavements.
According to Lviv City Council, 40% of the cost of the equipment will be covered by EIFO fund grant funding. The remainder will be financed by a loan in the form of a non-revolving credit line, approval for which was granted by councillors at a plenary session in June this year.
The first 15 units of equipment are expected to be delivered as early as this winter. The vehicles will be handed over to Lviv’s road maintenance enterprises so that they can clear carriageways, pavements and public spaces more quickly during snowfall and icy conditions.
«At the City Council session, a decision was voted through to enable the municipal road maintenance enterprises to purchase new snow-clearing equipment. These are favourable conditions for the city, as 40% of the total amount is grant funding for the purchase of high-quality Danish equipment. Several cities have already taken advantage of this programme and we have had positive feedback», said Andriy Moskalenko.
Head of the Department of Housing and Infrastructure of Lviv City Council, Oksana Pryhoda, noted that the purchase of modern machinery is particularly relevant due to a shortage of staff in municipal services. According to her, one such vehicle can replace up to 20 people, which will make it possible to clear the city more quickly during heavy snowfall, and in other periods of the year to use the equipment to clean streets, pavements and public spaces.
