In Lviv, preparations have begun for a potentially difficult heating season and prolonged outages of electricity, heating, water or gas. The city is compiling a list of residents who may need additional support during blackouts.
According to the Department of Social Protection of the Lviv City Council, calls are already being made to people in Lviv who live alone and who could potentially find themselves in difficult conditions in winter. Specialists are clarifying who exactly needs help and what kind of support each person may require.
«We are preparing in advance so that, in the event of a difficult situation in winter, we do not waste time when it comes to people who need help. It is important for us to know the specific needs of every resident. We want people who, because of age, disability or other circumstances, are the most vulnerable to know that the city is there for them and will not leave them to face their problems alone», emphasised the head of the Department of Social Protection of the Lviv City Council, Tetiana Kolesnyk.
The Department of Social Protection is asking Lviv residents to pay attention to neighbours, acquaintances or relatives who live alone, have difficulty moving around or may be left without support during a prolonged blackout. They are asking that information about such people be reported to the social support service on the short number 16−20.
