Lviv Regional Council Plans to Establish New Reserves

On January 16, a meeting of the permanent commission on ecology, natural resources, and recreation of the Lviv Regional Council took place.

The deputies agreed on the project to create a virgin forest nature monument of local significance “Rozhirchansky Forest” with an area of about 272 hectares in Skole. **The goal** is to preserve forests around 165 years old and species listed in the Red Book.

They also supported the creation of the complex nature monument “Maloholoskivska Debra” with an area of 4 hectares within Lviv — a unique ravine-gully area with natural forest and rare species.

The commission organized the area of the forest reserve “Velykyi Lis” and agreed on the project to increase the sanitary zone of the Truskavets water intake from the Voro-tyshche river.

“The decisions of the commission are aimed at preserving the valuable natural areas of Lviv region and will be submitted for consideration at the regional council’s session”, said the head of the commission, Vitaliy Svyshchov.
