“Mystical Brody”: the Department of Tourism and Resorts informs about one of the tourist excursions in Lviv Oblast

The excursion “invites” guests to walk through the streets of the ancient Galician town, get acquainted with its architectural monuments and learn about the mysterious stories that happened here in the past.

In order to promote the region, the Department of Tourism and Resorts of Lviv Regional Government informs about interesting places within one excursion. In particular, this is an excursion about mystical places in Brody.

“The tour invites guests to walk through the streets of an ancient Galician town, get acquainted with its architectural monuments and learn about strange and sometimes very mysterious and incomprehensible stories that happened here in the past,” said Vasyl Strilchuk, director of the Brodiv Historical and Local History Museum.

Participants of the trip can visit the Brody castle – once a powerful stronghold of the fortress city of Brody of the 17th century. Learn about the history of this landmark, about battles, various events and famous people associated with it. In particular, they will listen to a retelling of the story of the “terrible woman”, who settled in this area and frightened the inhabitants back in the 19th century.

As Vasyl Strilchuk told, one of the unusual events in Brody was the funeral of the great Crown Hetman of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth Stanislav Konietspolskyi (1595-1646), which was accompanied by mystical events during the ceremony. Excursionists will listen to the story about the ancient burial ritual of a nobleman “pompa funebris”, about the events that took place in the church of St. Stanislav in Brody and learn about the possible location of this church.

Gold Street – the central city pedestrian thoroughfare, which in the past was called the “city corso”, also has its secrets and mysterious events that happened here in the 1920s and 30s of the 20th century and found their echo in the mystical events of the second half. 20th century

The most famous cases of mysterious events that took place in Brody were recorded in the early 1920s. To investigate and study these strange and incomprehensible phenomena, the Greek Catholic Church created a special commission headed by Fr. Gavriil Kostelnyk.

“According to the results of the activities of this commission, in 1923, the printing house of the Stavropygius Institute published the book “Apparitions of Spirits in Brody”, based on the testimonies of eyewitnesses and the protocols of the commission. Also, tour participants will learn about the appearance of the Holy Mother of God in Brody as a warning sign of danger and certain historical changes or cataclysms,” Vasyl Strilchuk added.
