In 2026, over 626 million hryvnias are earmarked in the Lviv Region for veteran support. Approximately 80% of this sum will be provided by local communities, highlighting the decentralisation of support at veterans’ places of residence.
This issue was discussed at the fourth Dialogue with communities within the framework of the Congress of Local and Regional Authorities, led by Viktor Mykyta and attended by the Minister for Veterans Affairs, Nataliia Kalmykova. More than 1,600 participants joined the meeting.
The Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Ministry of Veterans’ Affairs prioritise employment for veteran support specialists in 2026. A 2.9 billion UAH provision is made for this purpose. In the Lviv Oblast, 109 specialists have already been employed, with a target to reach 122. This will enhance personal support for veterans and their families.
For housing veterans with disabilities and the families of fallen soldiers in 2026, 5.7 billion UAH has been allocated, a one-and-a-half times increase from the previous year. Last year in Ukraine, 1,559 apartments were purchased for veterans, 148 of which were in the Lviv Region.
Tasks for each region were defined during the meeting, including veteran employment, the development of support specialist institutions, and housing provision for defenders and their families. Special attention was given to sports initiatives as a means of physical rehabilitation and mental support.
