Organizer of Illegal Trafficking Apprehended in Lviv Region

In the Lviv region, police apprehended the organizer of a scheme for illegally transporting military-aged men to Hungary.

It was established that for $13,000, a 30-year-old resident of Vynnyky, together with accomplices, had set up a channel for illegally transporting men from Ukraine to the European Union beyond official checkpoints. The perpetrator developed plans for illegal border crossings, provided “clients” with instructions on procedures during the transition to neighboring countries, and also organized transportation bypassing checkpoints to the border crossing point. For an additional $700, men were provided with transport from Lviv to Zakarpattia and, if necessary, hotel accommodation.

The figure was exposed by operatives of the Migration Police Department in the Lviv region and investigators of the Lviv District Police Department No. 1, in cooperation with servicemen of the 7th Carpathian Border Detachment, under the procedural guidance of the Halych District Prosecutor’s Office. On February 5, law enforcement officers detained the perpetrator under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code. He was informed of the suspicion of committing a criminal offense under Part 3 of Article 332 (Illegal transportation of persons across the state border of Ukraine) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine. The sanction of the article provides for a penalty of imprisonment for a term of seven to nine years with deprivation of the right to hold certain positions or engage in certain activities for up to three years with confiscation of property.

Pre-trial investigation continues, and the court will soon choose a preventive measure for the suspect.
