Delegation from Krakow visits Drohobych

Drohobych is hosting an official delegation from the cultural capital of Poland, Krakow. The friendly city has been supporting Ukraine and the Drohobych community in particular in strategically important areas since the first days of the full-scale war. Such cooperation between the cities began with a partnership between local utilities – Krakow Vodokanal and Drohobych Vodokanal.

It is symbolic that the guests arrived in Drohobych during the traditional Bruno Schulz festival – Schulzfest 2024, which annually brings together Ukrainian and Polish parties and all lovers of Bruno Schulz’s work, contemporary literature, music and art.

Yesterday, the delegation attended the opening of the festival at the Lviv Academic Regional Music and Drama Theatre named after Yuriy Drohobych, and today an official reception was held at the Mayor of Drohobych Taras Kuchma, joined by Roman Shagala, Head of the Drohobych Vodokanal, Volodymyr Kondziolka, Head of the Drohobych City Institute, and Iryna Kushnir, Head of the Organisational Department.

The delegation was joined by Piotr Zentara, Chairman of the Board of the Krakow Vodokanal, and members of the Supervisory Board of the Vodokanal Paweł Senderik, Kateryna Jachymska and Mariusz Szubra.

During the reception, the parties exchanged best practices and opinions on projects already being implemented by the cities, and outlined areas for further cooperation.

Taras Kuchma, Mayor of Drohobych, discussed future projects with Piotr Zentara, CEO of Krakow Vodokanal. Among them is the implementation of a large-scale and far-sighted GIS (geographic information system) project. In Poland, such work has been going on for two decades. Drohobych has started it on its own and already has the first results.

They also discussed cultural and educational cooperation and projects that can help Drohobych achieve energy autonomy.

The way Krakow works to attract grant programmes is an exemplary example to follow. We are proud that we can learn from your experience. We also want to be useful to you, to share our experience, particularly in the field of rehabilitation and psychological recovery of people. Thank you for what you are doing and we hope that our cooperation will be mutually beneficial for both parties,” , said Taras Kuchma, Mayor of Drohobych.

At the end of the official reception, the parties exchanged souvenirs, after which the guests from Krakow had the opportunity to learn more about Drohobych’s achievements in healthcare, education and GIS.
