Launching Swiss Trams in Lviv: New Transport on Route No. 2

The city of Lviv is actively preparing for the launch of new trams, received free of charge from the Swiss city of Bern. According to the official statements during the last briefing, the first two tram cars are awaiting Ukrainian certification in order to start operating by mid-February.

At present, six trams have already arrived in Lviv, and another five are planned to be delivered in March. The main works required by the cars include the installation of electronic ticket systems, accessibility equipment, interior and exterior sound systems, information boards, and lighting. The certification is expected to be completed by February, after which the trams will start operating on route number 2.

Regarding the staff, Irina Kozak, the silver medalist of the International Tram Championship, has already undergone training in Switzerland and will subsequently be an instructor for Lviv drivers. According to the director of LKP ‘Lvivelectrotrans’ Volodymyr Kovaliv, the training is set to start soon.

The ‘Trams for Lviv’ project is supported by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs, which includes not only the transfer of trams but also spare parts and technical training.
