Since the start of the year, more than 37 streets in the Lviv community have been repaired and lit up through co-funding with residents

Since the beginning of the year, cooperation between the city, residents and local businesses has made it possible to improve the road surface and lighting on more than 37 streets across the Lviv community. Some of the works are due to be completed before the end of the year.

The main focus is on grading and partial paving of internal dirt roads. These works are being carried out under the road maintenance programme for dirt roads, prepared by the Office for Agglomeration and Community Development. The office notes that this model makes it possible to tackle local infrastructure problems by combining budget funds with contributions from residents and businesses.

In Vynnyky, repairs to Bukova Street have recently been completed under the co-funding programme: 30% of the cost of the works was paid by local residents, and 70% by the city. According to the head of the Community Office in Vynnyky, Bohdan Shuster, a further two streets – Kernytskoho and Kuka – are planned to be repaired in the same way this year.

Residents of Rudne and Riasne-Ruske have been the most active in restoring dirt roads. In Rudne, seven streets have been repaired, with another seven in Riasne-Ruske, as well as several in Pidriasne. For some of these sites, the Railway District Administration supplied milled asphalt, while local residents provided machinery.

In Riasne-Ruske, with the involvement of local businesses, Heroyiv Krut, Stefanyka and Luhova Streets were graded. Street lighting was also installed at five locations here: on Arkhitekturna Street, part of Zatyshna Street, Briukhovytska Street, and on Yevropeiska and Nezalezhnosti Squares.

In Malechiv, another four streets were repaired – Hrushevskoho, Mahdeburzkoho Prava, Lypova Aleia and Dachna. In Briukhovychi, thanks to cooperation between businesses and the Shevchenkivskyi District Administration, the square on V. Ivasiuka Street was repaired, and Shyroka Street was asphalted at the developer’s expense.

In the village of Hriada, one of the largest local streets, Horishnia – where the family outpatient clinic and church are located – was covered with crushed stone. Another street was restored in Velyki Hrybovychi. In Lysynychi, Hrushevskoho Street was repaired under the same scheme: residents purchased five truckloads of crushed stone, while the Lychakivskyi District Administration provided 90 tonnes of milled asphalt and supplied machinery.

In addition, new street lighting has been installed in Zashkiv, Zavadiv, Lysynychi and at two locations in Rudne. The city authorities intend to continue developing co-funding mechanisms to expand the list of streets receiving new surfacing and lighting.
