Sheptytsky and Scranton Sign Twinning Agreement

Yesterday, June 9, Mayor Andriy Zalivskyi and the Mayor of Scranton, Paige G. Cognetti, signed a Twinning Agreement between the city of Sheptytsky (Ukraine) and the city of Scranton (USA).

The agreement provides for cooperation in the fields of economics, local government, education, culture, youth policy, entrepreneurship. It should be noted that on May 22, the deputies of Sheptytsky City Council supported the decision to conclude the Twinning Agreement and authorized the mayor to sign it.

During an online meeting, the Mayor of Scranton, Paige G. Cognetti, stated that their community is always open to interesting partnerships — in sports, education, and business. “In the field of education, our city has a strong network of public schools and six higher education institutions — from a technical college to a medical school. We can initiate an online meeting between the educational institutions of Scranton and Sheptytsky. There is also an opportunity for business communication. I want to note that the Pennsylvania State International Business Office is always interested in such international dialogue, and this is another direction we can develop together.” – noted Paige G. Cognetti.

Mayor Andriy Zalivskyi thanked for the help that the United States and, in particular, the community of Scranton provide to Ukraine during the difficult time of war. “We see great potential in cooperation between our communities — both in business and in education. It would be interesting to involve business and youth in this cooperation, who could share experiences with American colleagues. Establishing contacts between schoolchildren, particularly 11th-grade students, and teachers who could learn about teaching methods in American schools, is especially promising. Since a school business club has recently been established at the Taras Horodetskyi Lyceum, we are also interested in studying youth entrepreneurship experiences in the States.” – noted Mayor Andriy Zalivskyi.
