In Drohobych, compulsory dismantling has begun of illegally installed metal garages located on municipal land and obstructing improvements to the area. The work is being carried out on the grounds of the Boberskyi Youth Sports School at 2-A Datska Street, near the House of Scientific and Technical Creativity for School Youth at 45 Truskavetska Street, as well as on a public-use plot at 1-A Verkhratskoho Street. The municipal enterprise “Municipal Management Service” (KP “SMU”) reported on the progress of the dismantling.
On 5 October, KP “SMU” had already removed several metal garages from the grounds of the Boberskyi Youth Sports School. The owners of another garage promised to move it themselves. Other structures located at the specified addresses are next in line for dismantling.
City Hall stresses that the sports school has long needed development of its surrounding infrastructure, particularly the creation of parking for vehicles. Around one thousand pupils attend the institution, and during nationwide competitions athletes, coaches and supporters from various cities across Ukraine come here. Because of the illegally installed garages, there is a serious shortage of parking spaces for cars and buses.
According to the City Council, there had been lengthy awareness-raising work with the owners of the structures, but some garage users, lacking the requisite permits, refused to remove them. Therefore, the issue of tidying up the territories was moved into the legal domain.
On 15 September 2026, the executive committee of Drohobych City Council adopted three decisions providing for the dismantling of 14 metal garages on Ivana Datska, Truskavetska and Verkhratskoho Streets. Users were given until 30 September 2026 to dismantle the garages voluntarily and to restore the plots they occupied to proper condition.
On 18 September, requirements for compulsory dismantling were posted again on Truskavetska and Verkhratskoho Streets. These notices stated that if the conditions were not met within the specified period, at the initiative of the City Council the KP “Municipal Management Service” would carry out forced dismantling of the garages by 13 October 2026.
Drohobych City Council reminds residents that garage owners were repeatedly offered alternative plots of land and given time to move the structures themselves. The current dismantling of structures installed without the necessary documentation is being carried out in accordance with current legislation and the Procedure for the dismantling of temporary structures, small architectural forms and temporary constructions on the territory of the Drohobych city territorial community.
