A Town for Orphans is Being Built in Dublyany

Construction of a family-type town for orphans has started in Dublyany.

The Lviv community became the first in Ukraine to launch the ‘Children’s Homes’ project. The construction is being implemented by the charitable organization SOS Children’s Villages Ukraine in partnership with the Lviv City Council, with the support of SOS Children’s Villages Denmark and the Herman Gmeiner Fund (Germany). This project is part of the international Children’s Living Places initiative, which creates conditions for children to live in a family environment rather than in boarding schools, according to the Lviv City Council.

The project involves the construction of three cozy family-type homes. They will be in the Scandinavian style — simple, bright, and cozy, with plenty of natural light and thoughtfully designed areas for communal living and recreation for children and families.

Up to 24 children in need of care will live in them, together with their foster parents. The area around the town will be developed. Children’s and sports playgrounds will be created there, open and accessible to all residents of Dublyany. There is a school nearby, so the children will attend a general educational institution. A social center will operate nearby. All of this together will create a large social space.

The project, funded by benefactors, costs about 2 million euros.
