For the Day of Defenders of Ukraine and the Feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary, the Lviv community has allocated one-off financial assistance for combatants with disabilities, as well as for widows and widowers of UPA veterans and former political prisoners. The payments are being organised by the Social Protection Department of Lviv City Council.
For the Day of Defenders of Ukraine, assistance from the city will be provided to 1,858 combatants who have disabilities in Group I, II or III as a result of wounds, concussion, injury or illness related to the defence of Ukraine. Persons with Group I disabilities are to receive 5,000 UAH each, Group II — 3,000 UAH each, and Group III — 2,500 UAH each. The total amount of these payments is 5,265,000 UAH.
Separate payments for the Feast of the Intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary have been allocated for families of those who were repressed and for participants in the liberation movement. One-off assistance of 1,000 UAH each will be paid to 37 widows and widowers of UPA veterans and 13 widows and widowers of former political prisoners. The total amount of these payments is 50,000 UAH.
The funding is provided under the Comprehensive Programme of Social Support for Certain Categories of Citizens of Lviv. As emphasised by the head of the Social Protection Department, Tetyana Kolesnyk, this is not only about financial support, but also about showing respect to those who sacrificed their health or lost loved ones in the struggle for Ukraine.
