Illuminated advertising was banned in the Lviv community

Today, October 7, at a meeting of the executive committee of the LMR, a decision was made to prevent the placement of light advertising on the territory of the Lviv City Territorial Community.

“Taking into account the consistent policy of the Lviv City Council to limit the presence of outdoor advertising in the visual space of the city, and taking into account the harmful effect of additional artificial light on the perception of the formed architectural environment, we believe that this decision is timely. In Europe, in many countries, the era has already ended when the principle prevailed: to be seen, you need to shine or the more kilowatts, the better the illumination. We must promote illumination, modesty and elegance, therefore we propose to make a decision on the prohibition of light advertising, moving tapes on the facades of buildings and inside premises, if they are visible to the outside environment,” said the director of the Department of Economic Development, Iryna Kulinych.

Also, the city will develop a clear algorithm of actions regarding the already installed light advertising structures.

“We discussed this important decision in various circles. We propose to immediately supplement it with clear criteria for preventing the placement of such advertisements, because as of now there are a number of such advertisements in the city, and we need to determine how to act. Currently, we give a sign that the city is categorically against the placement of illuminated advertising. When huge light screens are placed in the windows in the historical area, it actually destroys the entire beauty of the building, blocks the light. We should have the same standards and approaches to all entrepreneurs.

I suggest that, within a month, we also inform about the stage of implementation of this decision and give maximum publicity to this work”, – added the first deputy mayor of Lviv Andriy Moskalenko.
