City Council to set up a working group on kiosks on Chornovil Avenue

Today, the Lviv City Council held a meeting with kiosk owners who oppose the dismantling of their kiosks on Chornovil Avenue as part of the construction of a pedestrian boulevard.

As a result, the city will set up a working group to resolve the issue of temporary structures on Chornovil Avenue.

The Lviv City Council has recently approved the concept of a project to build a pedestrian boulevard on Viacheslav Chornovil Avenue: from the roundabout at the intersection with Lypynskoho Street to Varshavska Street. To carry out major repairs to this area, it is necessary to dismantle the temporary structures that are located there. However, the entrepreneurs oppose the dismantling of their kiosks.

During a meeting with Liubomyr Zubach, Deputy Mayor of Lviv for Urban Development, the entrepreneurs agreed to set up a special working group to resolve all issues related to the temporary structures on Chornovil Avenue.

“Today we talked to the entrepreneurs and agreed to set up a working group. No one will carry out any dismantling until the working group finishes its work.

I would like to emphasise that no one is planning to make a pedestrian boulevard for budget money. The Lviv City Council has a clear position that all our efforts in wartime are directed to supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine and critical infrastructure. Therefore, if something is going to be done there, it will be at the expense of entrepreneurs. This is actually a very good option when an entrepreneur makes high-quality improvements around his commercial building, because it improves his business, allows him to earn more, pay more taxes and donate more. And without a working economy, we will not win,” explained Liubomyr Zubach.

According to the official, there are about 50 temporary structures within the area. Some of them are included in the complex scheme, but they are to be demolished when the boulevard is built, but there are also those that were removed earlier. So the situation is different.

“Everyone should understand that if not now, then after the war is over, there will be this pedestrian boulevard there, because we have to take care of the overall comfort and aesthetics of the city. But of course, we will discuss various options with entrepreneurs, perhaps moving it or some other locations. We want everything to be done with maximum understanding,” the official added.

As a reminder, a pedestrian boulevard is to be built on Chornovil Avenue in Lviv. Pedestrian alleys, public spaces and playgrounds will be arranged on an area of 1.2 km in compliance with inclusive requirements. Special entrances will be provided to the buildings located on Chornovil Avenue. Temporary structures that are part of the project area will also be dismantled.
