On Chornovola Avenue in Lviv, work has begun to dismantle the last kiosk that was obstructing the continuation of works to create a pedestrian boulevard on the section from Lypynskoho Street to Varshavska Street. According to the Department of Natural Resources and Construction of Lviv City Council, the temporary structure is being taken down by its owner.
Once dismantling is completed, contractors will be able to finish this part of the boulevard. The project provides for the renewal of a public space approximately 1.2 km long — from the traffic roundabout at the junction with Lypynskoho Street to Varshavska Street.
The avenue is to be equipped with new pedestrian paths and pavements, cycle lanes, recreation areas with street furniture and inclusive elements. The space is planned to be made convenient for all road users, including people with limited mobility.
Before starting the reconstruction, it was necessary to clear the area of temporary structures. Agreements were reached with entrepreneurs who were operating legally on new locations for their trading activities.
The creation of the pedestrian boulevard is being financed by entrepreneurs operating in this area; no funds from the city budget are being allocated for this work. The first part of the boulevard, located in front of the shopping centre, has already been completed earlier.
The launch of the design works was given by a resolution of Lviv City Council, adopted in 2021 by 50 councillors, which provides for the creation of a pedestrian boulevard on Vyacheslav Chornovola Avenue. Using investors’ funds, the municipal enterprise “Institute of Spatial Development” developed the concept and outline design, which was presented the following year.
