To mark the 35th anniversary of Ukraine’s Independence, 776 rehabilitated residents of Lviv who have been recognised as victims of repression by the communist totalitarian regime will receive a one-off payment from the city.
According to the Department of Social Protection, the payment will amount to 2,000 hryvnias per person. In total, UAH 1,552,000 has been allocated for these payments from the city budget.
“This support is not only about financial assistance. Above all, it is about our gratitude and respect for those who endured political repression and preserved the memory of those difficult chapters in our history. It is important that the city continues to support these people and demonstrate that their experience, their dignity and their contribution to our state are not forgotten,” said Tetiana Kolesnyk.
Ukraine’s Independence Day is celebrated annually on 24 August to mark the adoption of the Act of Declaration of Independence of Ukraine and the break with the USSR. In the Lviv community, ceremonial, cultural, artistic and educational events are planned from 23 to 25 August to mark the occasion.
