Surviving the winter: Lviv will host 5 different forums in one week – Ukrainian Cities Resilience Week
The Local Government Forum, which has been held in Lviv for more than 10 years, has expanded this year into the entire Ukrainian Resilience Week. Ukrainian Resilience Week is an event that will unite the efforts of Ukrainian cities, businesses, research institutions and experts to strengthen the resilience of communities in times of war. As part of the Resilience Week, Lviv will host 5 thematic forums on preparing local communities for blackouts and adapting to other challenges of war from 30 September to 4 October.
During the week, our city will discuss energy, water and heat supply and waste management during the war. They will also discuss the challenges faced by condominiums and how to strengthen the financial basis of local self-government.
The Week will bring together experts from different countries and cities of Ukraine to exchange experiences, share ideas and establish partnerships to overcome difficulties in challenging times. In particular, the organisers expect up to a thousand participants from different communities in Ukraine.
IX Lviv Eco Forum (1-2 October)
During the two days of the forum, leading experts will discuss water supply, waste management and new approaches to environmental management. The theme of this year’s forum is “Together for Sustainability”. Speakers will share their experience on modern technologies and strategies for water management.
Heat Energy Forum (1-3 October)
This forum is dedicated to the problems of heat supply in Ukraine, in particular, ensuring stable heat supply in the context of military conflicts and climate change. Innovative solutions and international practices to improve energy efficiency will be discussed.
Forum “Financial Sustainability and Economic Development of Communities”
The secrets of economic sustainability and community development financing: experts will consider various strategies to ensure financial stability in difficult times.
IX Lviv Eco Forum: Waste Management (2 October)
Focus on effective waste management, new reforms to be implemented from 2025 and European experience in this area.
XV All-Ukrainian Forum of Condominiums
Discussion of reforms in housing and communal services, security and energy efficiency in apartment buildings, as well as alternative ways to attract investment.
The Sustainability Week will bring together leading industry experts from various fields. Key speakers:
- Natalia Khotsianivska, Director of the Department of Public Utilities at the Ministry of Infrastructure. She works on improving the heat and water supply system in Ukraine.
- Ronny Nilsson is NEFCO’s Senior Advisor in Ukraine. He is responsible for financing and implementing energy efficiency projects.
- Valdas Lukosevicius is the President of the Lithuanian District Heating Association. He will share his experience of transitioning to European heating standards.
- Diana Novikova is the head of the household waste management department at the Ministry of Community Development. She will talk about new approaches to waste management.
- Wayne Wickwist is a senior advisor at SALAR International. He will discuss the Swedish waste management model and its application in Ukraine.
- Pavlo Stander is a chief engineer at NPO Ecosoft. He is professionally engaged in water treatment and implementation of water treatment systems.

Ukrainian Resilience Week will be a platform for exchanging ideas, learning and forging important partnerships to ensure the resilient development of Ukrainian cities in challenging times.
