Lviv preparing to install beams for new bridge to Riasne

Construction of a new overpass towards the Riasne neighbourhood is ongoing in Lviv. At present, the main works are being carried out from the side of Kovcha Street, where the structures are being prepared for the subsequent installation of the bridge beams. LKP «Lvivavtodor» reported on the progress of the works.

At this section, a sheet pile fence that temporarily reinforced the slope during the drilling and concreting of bored piles is being dismantled. Around half of the protective structure has already been taken apart, and large-sized machinery is being used for the works.

According to the company, on the side of Kovcha Street the bored piles and the capping beam on which the bridge beams will later be installed have already been completed. The next step will be to form the embankment cone, which is intended to protect the slope from erosion by rainwater and from crumbling.

On the side of Shevchenka Street, these stages have already been completed, so once the works from the Kovcha Street side are finished, the builders will be able to move directly to installing the beams of the new overpass. According to the Director of LKP «Lvivavtodor» Mykola Vlasiuk, this will allow them to move on to one of the key phases of the construction.

Preparatory works for the construction of the duplicate overpass on Kovcha Street began in March. The new bridge is planned to have three traffic lanes, a separate cycling and pedestrian area, and signal-controlled junctions. The City Council stresses that the project is intended to ease the heavy traffic flow on the already overloaded Shevchenka Street and create conditions for the reconstruction of the existing bridge, which is in an emergency condition.

The indicative timeframe for the construction works is 11 months, although they are expected to be completed by the end of the current year. The project cost is UAH 106.8 million. The construction is financed from loan funds, as the resources of the city budget are mainly directed towards supporting the Armed Forces of Ukraine.

The City Council recalls that since the beginning of russia’s full-scale invasion, major road repairs in Lviv were put on hold. However, over time it became clear that postponing works on streets with heavy traffic leads to the rapid deterioration of the road surface and higher future repair costs.

Therefore, in 2025, using loan funds, repairs began on one of the city’s most hazardous streets – Zaliznychna. In 2026, with loan financing, repairs started on Mazepy Street. Works on Stryiska, Heroiv UPA, Horodotska and Vynnychenka Streets are being carried out with deferred payment.

Business is also contributing to the renewal of the street infrastructure. In particular, repairs on Koniushynna Street were carried out with deferred payment and co-financing from local entrepreneurs. Under the same arrangement, and in partnership with entrepreneurs, repairs are ongoing on Beskydska Street.
